Doyle LLP Trial Lawyers has filed a negligence lawsuit under Texas law against Chevron Nigeria Limited and Chevron USA Inc.  The suit is currently pending in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas.  A jury of citizens from various counties throughout Texas, including Harris, Galveston, Fort Bend, and Brazoria County will be called to decide the case.

The suit alleges negligence in the operation of an offshore platform.  SONAM NWP is an offshore platform operated by Chevron Nigeria located off the coast of the Republic of Nigeria. On June 1, 2017 valves onboard the platform started to leak. Doyle LLP’s Client was a part of the valve maintenance team working onboard the platform. On July 9, 2017—the date of the incident—Doyle LLP’s Client sustained injuries when he tripped on a ½ SS tubing placed as a dangerous and mostly concealed trip hazard by the platform’s commissioning team.  The trip hazard was not obvious to members of the valve repair team, including Doyle LLP’s Client, and the hazardous conditions on the platform were exacerbated by excessive hours of work required by the Defendants.

The suit further alleges that Chevron, by and through their employees and managers, were negligent in creating the dangerous conditions that proximately resulted in the Plaintiff’s injuries by failing to provide adequate crew and equipment, and through their negligent hiring, training, supervision, and in other respects. Specifically, Defendants negligently installed valves and tubing, had inadequate lighting in the general area, failed to follow or provide adequate safety protocols, and despite identifying the existence of a trip hazard—as evident by the caution tape wrapped around the tubing—failed to provide the barricade necessary to mitigate or warn personnel of this hazard.
